That could be. I have had some containers where the scent was not what it should have been. It usually means that the container has been sitting too long, or it has been exposed to an enviornment where it should not have been. Such as too hot or too cold. I had stored liquid tide in my attic once, and my attic will go from really cold to really hot. The liquid turned green anbd the scent was diminished. It was still safe and effective for use, but the enviornment had altered it.

Tide liquid is usually a blue blue. Check the liquid you have and see if it might have a slightgreen tinge like a deep dark aqua blue. If it does then it had been stored in a poor enviornment most likely at the store.
