Musty Smell in my HE washer
I just bought the new Tide for HE machines and I am smelling something musty in my clothes. I have a brand new high dollar maytag and thought that buying the best (most expensive) detergent would make my clothes smell clean and fresh, wrong! I have had to douse my laundry with fabreez the get them smelling clean. What gives with that?

Inappropriate?Hi Rita,
I'm sorry to hear this. Can I suggest you take a look at this link: http://www.tide.com/en-US/product/tid...
It will explain a bit about the problem you are experiencing and how to fix it.
HE machines work differently to standard machines, they use significantly less water and have more complex internal systems so it is important to both dose accurately and maintain your machine by cleaning it regularly.
I have had this problem before and I really recommend Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. It works and smells great!
Let me know if this works out!
Thanks,

Inappropriate?I used Gain and it smelled so much better than the Tide did....You can only "clean" a brand new machine so much....the above answer was misleading and worthless information.....

Inappropriate? You need to leave the door open after washing your clothes to allow the inside of the washer to dry. The mildew build up will cause the musty smell. Just run vinegar or bleach through an empty cycle to remove the odor.

It's quite obvious that you like so many people in your business are so concerned with your answer that you fail to pay attention to the question....If another detergent works just fine, then why would I choose to use Tide and have to leave the door open? My machine is brand new and cost over $2,400. for the pair....Tide needs to find out why Gain works and Tide does not! -
Hi Rita. I don't work for Tide and really don't care what type of detergent you use. I'm just sharing my experience to help with your experience. Honestly, I think your replies in this topic are very rude. Why even ask a question if you are not willing to listen to the feedback? Just saying. . . -
Inappropriate? If you don't work for Tide then why are you bothering me with your "just saying" advice? I am making a comment for Tide!

I was just trying to help give a non-biased opinion. -
Rita - I highly recommend trying a Washing Machine Cleaner. The issue you are experiencing is well known. Some machine manufacturers actually make washing machine cleaners to help with the musty smell problem or offer 'machine cleaning cycles'
Gain is also made by Procter & Gamble (the makers of Tide) and it is likely the stronger fragrance in Gain detergent that is masking the musty smell right now.
You can also try calling the manufacturer and see what they recommend.
Hope this helps.

Inappropriate?Mandy;
I used the tide washing mashine cleaner before and after and the smell is still there....It is the smell of the detergent. It smells like that in the bottle. I have a new machine, no mold.....Unless Tide fixes the smell of the "product" cleaning the machine will not make a difference.

Hi Rita - ok that is a different problem. I can recommend a couple of things:
1. Run a couple of cycles through the machine without any detergent or clothes.
2. Try using a detergent that is free of dyes and perfumes. Tide has one called 'Tide Free & Gentle' which is available for HE machines.
Hope this helps!
