Liquid vs powder & why
The dealer that I bought my new washer from said do not use liquid soap, use powder, and to use he. WHY? And, do you have tide with free and clear. I can't take smells.

Inappropriate?I greatly prefer powder to liquid! The liquid is water mostly and weighs more using more fuel to transport. Worse, it comes in plastic and plastic is destroying the planet: look it up. Powder comes in cardboard boxes. I always get Tide powdered Free because I cannot STAND fragrances. I have multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome. More and more people are getting this because of all the modern (last 70 years) synthetics. I love Tide Free or whatever they call it (MCS affects short term memory too!)

Inappropriate?Hi Joanne,
The 'form' of detergent you use (liquid or powder) is really up to your individual preference and will not effect your new machine. I personally use liquid, however my Mom used powder when I was growing up as she said it smelled better. :)
We do have a Tide Free version available it comes in a white bottle - you can find out more about it here: http://www.tide.com/en-US/product/tid...
Thanks,

Inappropriate?Power does not dissolved in cold water and power don't get some stain out oily dirt and food stains,
If you have mud stains or ground-in soil or dirt, then powder detergent will work best. Powder detergents are made with special ingredients that raise the pH of your wash, which makes for better cleaning
Liquids dissolve better in both cold and warm water, so you don’t have to worry about residues left on your clothes
oily dirt, like food stains, you should use a liquid detergent. Liquids have a different cleaning component that keeps the wash pH neutral, meaning you don't need to dissolve them, you can use them to pretreat, and you can add them to loads with delicate fabrics and colors.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? Some techs recommend powder as they believe that the powders help prevent mold and smell issues in front loaders. They claim it is due to animal fats in the liquids but I can assure you that is complete bunk. I have a front loader and used powders and still had problems anyway. I did regular maintence and left the door and drawer open so they would stay dry. I just had my moldy gasket replaced and the tech who did it said they are finding it's not the detergents but the gaskets themselves. It's a problem that the washing manufacturers are working on.
Best advice I can give you is this. Find out if your washer has any aluminum parts that may be placed with Steel ones. Example would be an aluminum spider assembly mounted to a stainless steel drum. These two metals put together corrode and the sodium carbonate in powders will corrode them faster. Tide liquid can almost completely eliminate the corrosion process. (I only recommend P&G liquids as they are the only ones pH balanced with the proper components to prevent the corrosion.) Warranties do not last forever and replacing a moldy gasket is more cost effective than replacing the drum and assembly as they are not sold seperately.
If you do not believe me feel free to research it yourself as I did. I have also tested the Tide liquid on alluminum. Although it did discolor the alluminum slightly at full strength, there was no pitting or deterioration after a prolonged exposure.
If you still decide to use powder, use the recommended amounts. Do not over dose.
I’m confident
