Why did tide change the handle style on the 80+ loads of dry detergent? The former style connected to both sides of the box and not to the lid. The new style connects only to the lid. It is very difficult to pick up a full box without spilling any once it has been opened because as soon as you lift the handle to lift the box only the lid comes up and the box tips.

The handle design change to the tide powder (141 oz.) that I use is very annoying. I store my detergent on a shelf above the my laundry machine. Used to be no problem picking up the box to move it down to use. Now I have to lift the box from the bottom - less secure, less comfortable. Please put your packaging engineers back to work on this one.

I have commented on employee Mandy's response. It's been almost half a year now! How about an update on this handle problem? I see boxes of Tide STILL have this dangerous and useless handle.

Why doesn't Tide Powder detergent connected on the sides instead of on the top? It would make it much easier to carry after opening it.

That's the point! The handle USED to be on the sides and they changed it almost a year ago. Now the small handle is useless after the box is opened and dangerous too, because you have to try it out first and discover what happens when you try to use it after the box is open. I have written about this a couple of times and they haven't changed the handle back to the way it was. --Joanna

I'm so glad that others have responded to my original post. Do you know what I'm doing? I kept a box with the original handle fastened to the sides, and I dump the new Tide into the old box. But how long will this old box continue to last?!

I could kick myself for not saving the old box. When I saw the little handle on the new box it just didn't register! I discovered the problem too late. What were they thinking? Did ANYONE there even try it out? I guess these corporate types don't do laundry. And they sure don't think much about customers either. --Joanna

I just bought a box of Tide and also discovered how useless the new style handle is. Once the box is open, the handle is of no value. The large boxes are very difficult to lift from a bottom shelf. I have used Tide for over 15 years but will no longer purchase it due to the difficulty in lifting the large boxes.

Please go back to the old side attached handles. An explaination for the change to the useless top handle would also be appreciated.

Figured out why they changed the handle! It's cheaper for them. And it gets the box out of the store and into your house. After you open it, the handle is useless but PG&E has your money! Their job is over! Why should they care? SOLUTION: Make your own handle. Bungee cord and strapping tape. Works like a charm.

I wish I could believe that. Smaller handle=cheaper. Simple as that. And you can load that box right up in your shopping cart and out the store with that small handle. Bungee cord solution is awkward, but it works. Be sure to use the wide strapping tape with the plastic threads running through it--easy to find in office supply store. You want a SHORT bungee. Fasten each end to the short side of the box as close to the middle as possible. The balance won't be very good, so be careful. But it does work. It's better than nothing. If they were going to fix this, they would have by now. ALL the large boxes of detergent have this now--not just Tide. And all owned by P&G. Sad.

TY for going into more detail about your solution. Notice my solution of about 3 months ago! I'll keep doing that until I can't use the old box any more, and then I'll go to your solution!!! Or maybe we should just buy liquid detergent from now on! I noticed, too, that all of the large boxes of detergent have the same short handles, and that they're all owned by P&G! Plus the smaller boxes of detergent don't have any handles on them at all any more! No wonder P&G doesn't care, since they have no competition!!

I hadn't noticed this penny-pinching package redesign when I bought more Tide. As soon as I went to do some laundry I almost dumped it all on the floor. How it takes two hands to carry it anywhere.

I'd been a happy customer for years but won't be buying this brand until they fix the handle.
